Maya’s Song

Dir. Franziska Schönenberger | Germany, India 2025 | 13 min | 12+ | with polish voice-over

KINOTEKA, ROOM 6 | 22.03 | 13:00-15:22

Maya feels quite comfortable in her own skin. She gets along very well with her parents and her two sisters. She loves music and her dog, Cookie. However, she knows very little about her biological parents-Indian migrant workers who had to give her up for adoption because she suffered from a lung disease. Maya lives with her family in Germany and has always understood why she doesn’t look like them, as it is openly discussed at home. But when facing the outside world, she has to explain her skin color. She is brown, while her family is white. This hurts Maya, but also inspires her creative expression.
