Yalla Parkour
Dir. Areeb Zuaiter | Palestine, Sweden, Qatar, Saudi Arabia 2024 | 89 min | 14+ | with polish subtitles
Ahmed shows the filmmaker spaces where parkour becomes a form of expression, a way of momentarily “taming” chaos, and a manifestation of hope and resilience in the face of adversity. Through the prism of their relationship, viewers discover possible answers to questions about belonging and identity: what does home mean for those who have never fully known it? How can one reconcile memory, dreams of escape, and love for a place that both binds and defines them?
The film tells the story of a meeting between the film’s director and a young athlete, Ahmed Matarem, whom she discovered online and decided to follow. Together they travel through the devastated spaces of the Gaza Strip: an abandoned airport, destroyed buildings, empty streets—places that have become arenas not only of physical struggle but also of existential confrontation.
