Dead as a Dodo
dir. Sara Kolster, Netherlands 2023, 60 min., 10+, film with Polish voiceover
‘We’ll all end up as a pile of worms,’ says the young protagonist of the film. At her school, the students know at least two people who have died. Both of them were their teachers. For such a small school, that’s a lot of farewells. This raises many questions that the students ask themselves and their teachers. Why do people die? What happens to us after death? The answers are not so simple. The complexities of the life cycle are easier to understand in practice. In gardening classes, everyone cheerfully weeds the beds, pulls out worms, plants vegetables, and, most importantly, starts talking to each other. One thing becomes certain: we are all part of nature.
