Flying Anne
dir. Catherine von Campen, Netherlands 2010, 21 min., 10 +, film with Polish voiceover
Looking at 11-year-old Anne riding her bike, climbing fences, or jumping on a trampoline, we see a normal, cheerful girl. But not everything is as it seems. Anne has Tourette syndrome, which means sometimes she has to spin around (always to the right) or lick anything within her sight. This could be a tomato while grocery shopping, a cash register, or a recyclable bottle. Anne is embarrassed by her behavior and tries to hide her tics while at school. In addition to tics, Anne is also more emotionally sensitive than other children her age. Despite her challenges, Anne does everything she can to navigate life as normally as possible. She enjoys playing with friends who know her and do not look at her suspiciously.
