From the Animals’ Perspective 10+

March 24, 2025 (Monday) 9:00-10:30

Primary Schools: Grades IV-VI

We invite you to a workshop inspired by the film “Happy New Year” directed by Sebastian Mulder. Together, we will explore how New Year’s Eve traditions affect animals and the world around us. We will delve into the concept of perspective—both technically and narratively—trying to see the world through the eyes of animals. Perspective in storytelling refers to the point of view from which a story is told, influencing its reception—and we will attempt to adopt the perspective of animals. Participants will also create short comics depicting New Year’s Eve as seen through their eyes.

Happy New Year | dir. Sebastian Mulder | Netherlands 2023 | 21 min. | film with Polish voiceover

At the end of the year in the Netherlands, as in many other countries, fireworks worth millions of euros go up in smoke. For animals, this New Year’s Eve celebration is a true nightmare. How does this light-and-sound spectacle appear from their perspective?

Topics covered in the film: animals, human-animal relationships, responsibility, the impact of the human world on the natural world

The workshop will be led by Anna Szary—an art historian, educator, exhibition curator, and author of texts on art. She has gained experience in various cultural institutions (Centre of Polish Sculpture in Orońsko, Labirynt Gallery in Lublin, Centre for Contemporary Art Ujazdowski Castle in Warsaw, Museum of Warsaw). Currently, she is affiliated with the Museum of the Royal Łazienki in Warsaw. She is a regular collaborator with the Andrzej Wajda Centre for Film Culture.
